Matt 'M1' DiMaria

M1 a.k.a. Matt DiMaria is distinctively a Canadian electronic music pioneer. Intriguing and progressive tracks keep the international audience awaiting each new venture he undertakes.

With an early passion for spinning and mixing beats, Matt was notoriously known as the "mixologist" DJ M1. His infamous scratching techniques using everything from skates to a saw, crowned him top DJ in his native Toronto. The 90's emergence of new and innovating music became the next passion for M1. Striving for an expressive medium, M1's house classic Feel The Drums, a fusion of "breakbeats and a hypnotic baseline" was released on the NYC label Emotive. It went on to become an international club anthem.

The successes of Won't You Come Away? featuring Jacksoul's Haydain Neal, and I Can Feel It, with Love Inc's Simone Denny, gave M1 the drive to seek further recognition in the dance community. It was not long before The Record's 1996 Dance Special named M1 as one of Canada's top remixer/producer. This distinction recognized his remix work on various artists' songs such as The Bucketheads' The Bomb, the Gloria Gaynor classic, I Will Survive and Soulgrabber Soulgrabber Part 3.

The wild stylin' Electronic Funk hit number one on the national DJ pool charts and on The Record's dance club chart in 1998. M1 recently teamed up with world renowned DJ/producer Roger Sanchez for a UK release of Electronic Funk remixes due out soon. The catchy disco sounds of M1 Presents Neon Lights House of Funk reached top 10 on the national dance club chart this year, giving M1 two consecutive top 10 hits.

Aside from continuing his solo and remix work, the M1 side projects: Neon Lights, Matthaus, Bionic Men, Backdoor Revelations, 3 The Hard Way and Manmachine, are beginning to make a name on their own. Each new venture retains the distinctive M1 touch, the progressive sounds of which the dance music fan eagerly awaits to hear.
