Olav Basoski

Olav Basoski, Amsterdam dwelling descendant of a Polish soldier is one of the biggest names in house music. His career as a DJ started when he was just 15 playing all kinds of stuff, mainly late 80s disco. His first contact with housemusic was when he went to a club and heard Inner City's "Big Fun" in 1989, it blew his head off. That really set him off to be doing what he is doing now.

As well as a slew of his own productions he has twiddled knobs for Moby, Bob Marley, Hardfloor, Apollo 440, James Brown and Frankie Goes To Hollywood and just has put the final licks on a remix of Mirwais' "Naïve Song", Madison Avenue 's third single "EYN" and "Spaced Invaders" from Hatiras. Next is remixing new Stonebridge and Coco da Silva summerstomper "Clubbing International" and compiling and recording a DJ mix album for Defected UK.

Olav has recorded under other names like Sil, Pancake and Samplitude. These days he prefers to use his real name. With "Opium Scumbagz" he is really finding his form as he moves into more interesting areas of dance music. Here we find him in a very musical, latin mood, taking the 'samba magic' template and turning it into an Italian piano driven Brazilian stomper. "Opium Scumbagz" was huge last summer on dancefloors in the UK, Germany and Ibiza. "Samplitude Vol. 10" out soon through Work. Olav's mixes and productions have carved him a niche and a reputation but he is intent on expanding his production capabilities. He is now ready for the next step-up producing his eagerly anticipated debut album which should see light end summer 2001.


Olav is back behind the decks again and can be found DJ-ing all over the world. His style is second to none brilliantly mixing uplifting, pumping clubtunes with soulful, energetic techhouse.
