Sandra Collins

Picture yourself on a crowded dancefloor. It's hot and steamy, but something's missing : a good collective vibe of crowd unity. Suddenly the music begins to shift tempo. It's faster, thumping, hypnotic - the throbbing heartbeat of progressive trance insinuates into your brain, getting that delicious adrenaline-endorphin cocktail buzzing in your veins.

As the room begins to gel, you find yourself being swept up as the music glides you skyward (by the chest, not the groin), into a higher state of rhythmic bliss and melodic happiness. And above it all, a grinning florescent redhead whose tongue keeps popping out and waving in the breeze.

Sounds like fun? Welcome to the world of Sandra Collins, the west coast expatriate now living in New York who's not only one of the best female DJ's around, but one of the best trance DJ's in America.

Her background in music is certainly extensive with over 12 years of Djing experience to her name. From her early beginnings in Phoenix through the New York 'Storm' raves in 92 with Josh Wink and Frankie Bones and over to Los Angeles for the upsurge in trance where she became the resident at Metropolis and A&R'd for Eye Q before moving once again to New York in 98 to pick up her residency at the prestigious club Twilo.

'I have outrageous behaviour sometimes, and it's just my personality, you know ?' Maybe her crazy fun loving attitude comes from being born into a famous Las Vegas show business family or maybe it's just her overflowing passion for the music she plays (and creates). ' You know, a DJ set is like a story. There's a beginning, there's a middle, there's a peak and in my songs, each song is like a mini set. It's exactly the same way I spin 'em.'

From the cover of XLR8R Mag to her Coca Cola Ad. debut and nominations for Outstanding Electronica Artist (BAMMIE Awards) and Best Trance DJ (Global DJ Awards), Sandra fever is sweeping ever Eastwards into Europe. Her last single release 'Ode to Our' on Fragrant was highly praised and now signed to Hook she looks unstoppable. Who says it's a mans world ?!
