Azuli Records
Ten years after it's conception, Azuli Records has now released 150 singles and getting on for over 10 albums. Few British independent dance labels have achieved such longevity, or can claim to have attracted such credibility. As one of the hippest and most quality driven labels, it has attracted some of the most respected names in the world of Dance music...
Tony Humphries, David Morales, Frankie Knuckles, Farley and Heller, Murk, Stonebridge, Joey Negro, Satoshie Tomie , Basement Boys, E Smoove, Kerry Chandler, Tuff Jam, Mousse T, Boris Dlugosh, Lenny Fontana, Bini & Martini
...are amongst those who have worked for a label that was one of the first, and remains the foremost independent dance labels in the UK. After starting a label for British producers working in a more US style before the category 'Garage' had been invented, the label took off in Europe and the United States achieving a solid fan base for its European edged style of melodic house. A platform for producers previously ignored by labels on both sides of the Atlantic, Azuli can claim to have launched or aided careers of some prominent dance producers:
Mount Rushmore, previously known as Chocolate Fudge progressed to two single releases thro' XL records and are now a prominent UK remix team.
Booker T is another Azuli discovery recording his first three singles as Underground Mass all on Azuli. Booker went on to become one of the UK's hottest remixers and producers.
Tuff Productions feat. Carol Leeming recorded for Azuli, later changing their name to Staxx and having a top 20 UK and US hit with 'Joy' on Champion records.
Romanthony had his career launched by Azuli and has become a cult name on the dance circuit.
Although no longer part of the business, Azuli also aided and helped launch other like-minded labels by pressing and distributing for them.
Labels that emanated from Azuli's base at Black Market Soho included: Z Records (Dave Lee, aka Joey Negro's Label); Paper Recordings (Miles Holloway & Elliot Eastwick); Swing City Records/Rise and Shine (Grant Nelson); Centrestage Records (Simon Marks & Andrew 'Doc' Livingstone); Luxury Service (Disco Elements Label); Boombastic (Stephan Mandrax & Mike Delgado); Ethos Mama (Ricky Montanari & Davide Ruberto) and Shaboom.
